Since I am having so much trouble with the actors I have decided to animate half of the movie. since animating is a time consuming task I have looked for shows with animating styles that are simple. In the show tom goes to mayor, the makers simply took photos of actors and of backgrounds and used a filter in photoshop to make it seem as though the people had been drawn. from there I presume that they just put them together and edited them with the sound in after effects. the show has very limited animation but I think it works. I plan on drawing the characters in black ink and leaving them black and white with some shading to emulate the effect in the show.

Reaction paper

I had gone to see the “shorts: cold feet”, Which I thought contained a lot of great shorts, my favorites being “Irish Twins”, “The Tournament” and “Sikumi”. at the same time however I feel like the short movies were unorganized in the sense that it seemed as though the people that made the program tried to unify these movies with a theme but failed in doing so. Otherwise the movies were great though. The two things that I noticed about all the moves is that they either had excellent story telling or pacing that made the story better than it actually was. The two best examples of this, in my opinion were “the tournament” and “Irish twins” In both movies the there was a specific plot point that became a twist in the way the continuity of the story was portrayed, because of this it was as if the story is centered on that twist. In other words its almost as though the story was written for the sole purpose of leading up the twist. In a sense it is what created the pacing of the story, because the pacing in both movies would speed up or slow down depending on whether or not they were talking about that related to the twist. In Irish twins Seamus tries to get his brother to go with him to Ireland to scatter his father’s ashes but his brother refuses because he didn’t like his father. Seamus tries to convince him by telling him things about their father that might make him see his father differently. In that movie the pacing always picks up when they are talking about going to Ireland and slows down slightly when they are talking about their father. This makes sense because later in the story we find that Seamus was being perused by his bully from high school, whom he had shot in the arm a few hours before, this is what inevitably led up to the teist at the end when Seamus’ brother kills Seamus’ bully. I think all of the movies this sort of great story telling and pacing, even though it worked better in some more than the others.
